COUPLES THERAPY

What is Couples Therapy?

Couples Therapy can be beneficial to all couples–whether you’ve been married for decades, have been cohabitating for a year, or are simply experiencing hardship in a new relationship. It can improve the quality of your relationship, and strengthen the connection you have with your partner. Dr. DeSantis & Associates has a proven track record of helping couples at all stages of their relationships, and provides these services for $175-$300 per session. Select insurances are accepted.

How can Dr. DeSantis & Associates help?

In addition to being a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Danielle DeSantis is also a licensed Marriage and Family therapist, and has provided marriage and couples therapy for nearly 14 years. She uses a variety of clinical approaches in her work, depending on each individual’s needs, and the needs of the relationship. Dr. DeSantis also has extensive experience with LGBTQ+ couples, infidelity issues, alternative relationships, couples who could simply benefit from a tune up, and more.

Each couple presents to therapy at a different point in their relationship, and thus it is very important for a therapist to play a neutral role, and perform a through assessment of all factors surrounding present concerns and issues. Dr. DeSantis & Associates explores the history of the relationship, communication styles, love languages, defensive mechanisms, coping skills, family dynamics, the role of each partner, and the dynamics leading up to the current issues, working to identify any patterns and contributing factors. It is also important to use time spent in therapy sessions wisely, in order to transition out of current patterns and work on “stuck points” in relationships.

Homework assignments are an important part of couples’ therapy. The goal is to provide couples with the skills and tools that they can apply throughout the week (or weeks) between therapy sessions. Ultimately, Dr. DeSantis & Associates hopes to guide couples towards introducing healthier patterns and communication styles into their relationships, which will lead to an increased sense of connection, vulnerability, intimacy, and improved quality time. Because of the highly specialized nature of couples therapy, finding the right qualities in a therapist is crucial–and can make a big difference in the ultimate outcome.

With patience, motivation, common goals, transparency, and consistency, couples are very likely to be successful in their journey towards reconnection, happiness, and fulfillment.
